I had an aunt who told me she wanted a kid with blue eyes and blonde hair. Eww. Self hatred is sad. Why Filipinos aren't respected, and the way that they should be, it's because it all stems from internalized self-hatred of actually being Filipino. And I'm going to specify how media has had a hand in this, because I remember growing up watching TFC, going, how come the Filipinos that are full Filipino, the morena ones, why are they always playing poor people? In every single show, the light-skinned ones, or the ones that are half white, that can never for shit, they don't even speak Tagalog. They always play the rich person, right? And it's like, oh, speak as much English as you possibly can, then throw in a Tagalog at the end. You know what I'm saying? They always have to look outside of our own culture, and our culture is so beautiful. And it absolutely can be very upscale and tasteful. And the way that our own media presents us as a culture is like, we alone are not good enough. We need something else to show that we truly are elevated and tasteful. And that's fucking
