These are social norms in college that I think are really important for freshmen to know. Number one, nobody cares if you eat alone. Because like in high school, it was such a big deal. Oh, that person's eating alone. Why are they eating alone? In college, I promise you, it is normal to eat alone. Next, do not raise your hand and ask to use the bathroom, just get up and go to the bathroom, alright? Because in high school, you know, you raise your hand, someone says yes, someone says no. In college, if you gotta use it, just get up and go. Don't make a scene if you raise your hand. It's just gonna be weird. Next, you don't have to go to class. No one's forcing you to go. And in a lot of classes, attendance is not mandatory, which is way different than high school. But here's the thing, that means you have more responsibility to actually get yourself up to go. And on a similar note, unlike high school, you will not just pass a class because your teacher needs you to. Alright? Your professor in college, if you fail that class, you will just fail it. Alright? There is no such thing as, oh, I need to pass people so it looks better for my class. Average, no. If you're failing that class, your professor is going to fail you. Next, a lot of professors go by their first name. Now, some don't. Some will say, hey, call me Professor X, or you know, call me Doctor X. But find out what they want to go by. A lot of them will just be like, hey, you can call me Allen or hey, you can call me Gary. And the final norm is that you are an adult. And I know we all understand yes, we're adults, but you don't truly understand it until you get to college because you have all the freedom, you're making your own decisions. No one's babying you, no one's making the choices for you. So you have to keep that in mind with everything you do.
