I have said this before, and I’ll say it again. One of my biggest heartbreaks in animal sheltering is that I see a future for almost every dog who comes through those doors. A recovery. A home. A life beyond whatever brought them there. That is the downfall of loving them all. Unfortunately, Sun, Moon and Star appeared to have already started declining before they ever made it to the shelter. They were found on the street, nearly hit by a car, and rushed in for help. Sometimes puppies come in sick, spend a few days decompressing, begin treatment and slowly start to turn a corner. For these three sadly that wasn’t the case. Despite medical intervention, their little bodies could not fight what was happening to them. For two days, we gave them as much comfort, warmth and love as we possibly could. Sun. Moon. Star. You will always be remembered by me. You will always have this little corner of the internet where people know your names, know that you existed, and know how hard you fought. You were so brave. Life was not fair to you. I’m sorry. And I am begging people: please, please, please spay and neuter your dogs. And please vaccinate them. If cost is the barrier, reach out to your local shelter, rescue, veterinary clinic or community organizations and ask what resources are available. Please ask for help before another litter is born into circumstances where they may never have a real chance. Sun, Moon and Star were parvo negative, but parvo has taken far too many puppies this year. We are seeing puppies arrive critically ill, sometimes so late that there is very little anyone can do to save them. I am exhausted and heartbroken by how many babies are suffering. They should not be brought into this world only to know sickness, fear and pain. And one of the hardest parts of sheltering is that after a loss like this, everyone still has to keep going. There are more animals waiting. More medical treatment needed. More kennels to clean. More lives depending on the people inside those walls. But I don’t want these three to simply become another sad day we had to move past. They deserve to be remembered. All of the sick puppies do. Rest in love, Sun, Moon and Star. 🤍 #fyp #AdoptDontShop #spayandneuter #puppytiktok #shelterdog
