We were sold a version of the American Dream that was just a trap. Good job. Good benefits. Primary home. Bought my dream truck. That was supposed to be the finish line… Instead it was 60-hour weeks, barely seeing my wife, and a system that taxes people W2 employees the hardest. Nobody talks about that part. You can do everything "right" and still feel like you're falling behind, because the game was never built for you to win by working harder. We took the $74K we had and bought a $495K house in Nashville. Sold my truck to furnish it and listed it on Airbnb. That one decision is the reason we're stay at home parents today, homeschooling our kids, and building our dream home. We went from 0 to 14 properties in 6.5 years.
