How My Son Got a 35 on His ACT

My son Brennan he's headed to Vanderbilt, he got a 35 on his ACT. Today he's gonna give us some ACT tips. First let's start with math. For math the most important thing is just making sure you have every little thing memorized all the way from middle school up to high school cause it's just a ton of memorization and you gotta go really really fast. So you gotta make sure you know it off the top of your head. So memorize all the math like equations or something. And like what you need to like each type of problem usually that was just the most memorization honestly. Alright now let's do reading. So for reading, there is always an exact answer you can find in the text and I had problem remembering what those were when I would read through the whole text. So I found that there's a pattern and where the answers are for each question um the answer for the next question is always a little bit below the one before and if the one before was at the end of the paragraph the text the next one will be at like the top ish um except for the very first question which is just about the passage as a whole. You can use that pattern to know the approximate location of those sentences you should be looking for. That's so cool. How about English? Um so for English, it's pretty similar to math and that you just need to make sure you have all the grammar rules down cause it's all about speed. Uh one interesting thing is that the no change answer has uh if I'm remembering correctly a 45% chance of being correct. So if you don't know which answer is correct go with that one because they need to make sure that the passage is readable and so most of the stuff is no change. Oh wow, okay. And then science. Uh so for science, science is super easy if you just know this one trick and it's to not read any of the passages. Just look at the question first and then look in the table for the data. I never read any of the passages when I took it and it was so much easier. And what did you get on science? Uh 36. That was my first 36 wow crazy. So don't even read the passage. Just read the questions. Yeah, yeah. Reading the passage makes you run out of time. Wow. And then should you choose paper or computer? I personally enjoy paper way more. Um on I was able to get a 36 on reading on the paper test using my my strategy for where the answers were, but it seems that that strategy doesn't work as well for online so I prefer paper. And when's the best time to take the ACT? I think junior year is the best time to take the ACT by far because all of your classes are very relevant to it and a lot of times the highest level of something on the ACT is gonna be a junior year class. I tried to take it again senior year to get a 36 and I got slightly lower scores. So I think that proves it. Got this. Go get your perfect score. Good luck. Go get your perfect score. Good luck.
