Those 🇵🇰 families in the 🇬🇧 that would force their daughters to wear shalwar kameez everyday while allowing their sons to wear whatever they wanted. And my mom growing up in the west but only being allowed to wear shalwar kameez and not even owning a pair of jeans. Does anyone else, who grew up outside of Pakistan, in Ireland or the UK, remember those specific Pakistani parents that would force their daughter to wear shalwar kameez everywhere. Every single day and she was not allowed to wear other clothes other than shalwar kameez, which if you guys don't know is the traditional dress of Pakistan. And her brothers could wear whatever they wanted. In the UK and in Ireland, there are different like clothing trends, okay? And while I can understand that some like religious parents may not want their daughter wearing leggings or maybe wearing a skirt, so that's why they're more conservative with her dressing, making her daughter wear shalwar kameez everywhere whenever she's living in a western country. These families, even a loose t-shirt and jeans is seen as inappropriate. The only appropriate dressing is traditional desi clothes. Something I 100% say is that shalwar kameez is beautiful and it's very modest. But I don't think that when you force your daughter to wear shalwar kameez living in the west, she's going to have a really good relationship with her culture and with her cultural clothing. I will also say that my family never forced me to wear my traditional clothes every single day if I met with my friends or if I went to the shop. And wearing my traditional clothes has always been my own personal choice. I've definitely seen around me Pakistani parents forcing their daughters to wear shalwar kameez literally everywhere. Even in areas where there's not much of a Pakistani community at all and it's not really like normal to be wearing shalwar kameez and to not be allowed to buy any even modest western clothes.
