How to Increase Your Breastmilk Supply While Breastfeeding
Skin-to-skin 🤱
Spend time skin-to-skin with baby, especially before feeding. It can encourage relaxation and support milk let-down.
Eat enough + stay hydrated 🍽️💧
Your body needs enough energy and fluids to support milk production. Focus on eating regularly and drinking to thirst.
Put baby to the breast often
The more frequently baby nurses, the more signals your body gets to make milk. ✨ Supply & demand!
Don't skip overnight feeds 🌙
Try to breastfeed between 1-4 AM when possible. Prolactin levels are generally higher overnight, which supports milk production.
Make sure baby is transferring milk well
A deep latch + effective milk transfer are important for stimulating your supply. If you're concerned, a lactation consultant can help assess the latch.
Offer both breasts 🤍
Let baby finish the first breast and then offer the second.
Remember: supply can fluctuate 🤍
Growth spurts, illness, stress, sleep changes and hormonal changes can all affect feeding patterns and supply.
