You shouldn't pick a degree whether it's undergraduate or graduate in something that a job can teach you. I get asked so many times, what should I major in if I want to work in clinical research, regulatory affairs, clinical development, whatever. Some people ask me, what do you think about a master's of science in clinical research? What do you think about a master's of science in regulatory affairs? I'm gonna tell you right now, and this applies to all degrees. I have my bachelor's of science in biology. Getting a bachelor's in biology, I cannot learn that on the job. I get fundamental skills that I would apply in a role. When I first graduated, I was working at Yale University as an immunology associate, working with the Connecticut State Department of Public Health. I was applying the principles I learned in my biology program in that job. When I was working in the pharmacy, I didn't learn biology on the job. It helped me understand how to be a pharmacy technician because of my education. Someone majors in finance, they don't get a job and start learning finance on the job. They're applying the principles, the fundamentals, the core elements of what they learned in their degree in the job. So what I think about a master's of science in clinical research, makes perfect sense. You get strong skills from that type of degree. A master's in epidemiology, a master's in something that is focused that you will walk away with concrete skills that you can actually apply to a system. The point is, pick a degree, whether it's bachelor's, master's, or your doctorate, that will give you skills you can actually apply.
