Day 20 of the Lindsay Clancy trial brought some of the most detailed testimony yet about what Lindsay says she remembers from January 24, 2023. Dr. Kirk Heilbrun finished his testimony and maintained that, although Lindsay was severely mentally ill, he believes she was still criminally responsible. Then Dr. Gregory Saathoff took the stand and walked the jury through Lindsay’s account of the night her children died — including the reported voice telling her to kill the children and herself, the phone call with Patrick, her fragmented memories of taking the children downstairs, and her suicide attempt afterward involving crushed pills mixed into lemonade. At this point, the issue for the jury is becoming very clear: not simply whether Lindsay was mentally ill, but whether that mental illness left her unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of her actions or conform her conduct to the law.
