People think designer taste means designer prices, but the truth is you can find good pieces anywhere if you know what to look for. Here’s what I check every time. Weight first. Heavier items usually mean better material, cheap plastic feels light and hollow, so pick things up before you decide. Material second. Look for anything that mimics ceramic, glass, wood, or metal over shiny plastic. The more natural the finish looks, the more expensive it reads. Logos and graphics last. Skip anything with a big brand name or busy graphic design printed on it. Plain, simple pieces look intentional. Branded ones look like what they are. Follow these 3 rules and your dollar store finds will look like they came from a boutique, not a bin. Which one of these are you checking for on your next run?
