If you’re wide awake in bed, the instinct is often to try harder to sleep. But that can make sleep feel like work. Sometimes it helps to shift your focus from “I need to sleep” to “I can rest for now.” You might get out of bed, sit up, read, listen to something calming, or simply get more comfortable. If getting out of bed isn’t possible for you, that’s okay too. This is one of the ideas behind Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. We’re trying to reduce the pressure around sleep and help your bed feel less like a place where you struggle. I’m Tony Ho, MSW RSW, an insomnia therapist. I share practical, evidence-based ways to make sleep feel less stressful. Comment SLEEP if you want my free Sleep Without the Struggle guide. #insomnia #bettersleep #sleeptips #sleephacksforinsomnia
