Did you know that your addiction is actually proof that you can love Jesus wholeheartedly? Why are ex-addicts, why are ex-gang members like myself, some of the strongest believers on the planet? Think about what addiction really is. It's a person giving themselves over fully to something without reason. Giving their whole life up for it. They don't need anybody to tell them, they can just do it. Secondly, if they're addicted to something, they'll give up all their money. They'll give up their reputation. They'll give up their relationships. They'll give up everything. For that one thing, addiction. To me, that's not weakness. Do you know what that is? Capacity and potential. Because if God was to flip that heart towards the Gospel, you now have a very powerful person. So when people say, "No, I don't know, I don't know how to surrender." Yeah, you do. You surrender to your sin every single day. Why not shift it to surrender to your Savior instead of sin? Paul is a big advocate of this. He was hunting Christians, stoning apostles. And then look at how God flipped him. To where he would even, in the end, eventually die for the Gospel. So God is also kind of show that our capacity for addiction is also our capacity for wholehearted devotion.
