You're not doing anything wrong...
You just have boys.
If you feel like you're fighting for your life most days... read this (and save it for the hard days)
First ... you are not alone.
There is a community of boy moms that are gathering here on this page that TRULY understand and can relate to the unique ✨ challenge AND blessing of being a mother to boys.
Connect in the comments and DM each other!
2. Our American culture has a weird response to boys.
There is sometimes a negative view of having boys or a sense of "pity" when you tell people you have all boys.
It's important that you firmly reject that sentiment and counter it with the truth ... raising boys is a privilege.
Yes it's hard, and messy and tiring and chaotic.
But it's a hugely rewarding, and it's more than worth it!
3. Your boys aren't bad because they have a lot of energy.
They aren't misbehaving just because they are loud.
These qualities are natural in boys and it's our job to set them up for success by helping them channel this in ways that will help them be successful in life - like sports, jobs and responsibilities, physical activity etc.
Adjust your expectations. If you expect them to be calm and quiet all the time, you're going to be disappointed.
4. You will enjoy being a mom to boys more if you can learn to resist less.
Determine what the boundaries are for you and for them, and then say "yes" in between those lines.
The more you can lean into (and even find humor in!) the craziness, the more fun you'll have.
5. Learn to regulate your emotions so that your mood is not dependent on their behavior.
Remain in a neutral state as much as possible.
If you approach every day hoping and praying that things will be calm, you will always be disappointed :)
6. Don't expect your boys to have perfect behavior if they haven't had enough time outside.
Being outside and/or having enough physical activity EVERY day is a non-negotiable when it comes to their overall well-being.
If they are behaving poorly, ask yourself if they have been outside enough.
If not, help them get outside and release that pressure valve.
7. Boys don't JUST need physical activity. They need physical affection equally as much.
Hug them tightly more than you think is necessary!
They are truly so emotionally sensitive, and physical affection is crucial for their development.
8. Don't compare your parenting experience with anyone who doesnt have multiple boys.
It's not better or worse, but it IS ✨ different ✨.
If you are looking around and seeing calmer scenarios than yours, you might wonder if you are doing something wrong. You're not...You just have boys!
9. Raising boys IS challenging, but it is a GIFT.
You are responsible for raising boys to one day go out into the world and become good men.
What more important job could there be?
Be encouraged. All of your hard work is not in vain and it WILL be worth it!
10. Take care of yourself. You're surrounded by testosterone 24/7 and you deserve to indulge in ✨ girly things ✨.
Delete any feelings of guilt when it comes to pampering yourself, investing in your health and feeling good.
You can't pour from an empty vessel.
You might live in a frat house, but you are the queen of the castle. 👑
