I hear people talk about finding a niche all the time, and this is my own hot take: Except you blow, no rush to niche down. 😂 Yes, having a niche has its advantages. It makes it easier for people to know you for one particular thing. But as a fashion entrepreneur who is just starting out, niching down too early can also limit you. You’re still discovering your strengths. You’re still learning what your customers actually want. You’re still figuring out what sells, what you enjoy making and, most importantly, what makes you money. So why restrict yourself before you even have enough information? Start. Explore. Try different things. Take different types of orders. Learn the business. As you grow, the numbers, your customers and your own strengths will begin to show you what you should be known for. Then you can streamline and intentionally build your niche. Sometimes you don’t find your niche before you start. You find it by starting. And this is exactly the kind of practical fashion business knowledge we teach at @Fashion School in Ibadan not just how to sew, but how to actually build and understand the business of fashion.
