So this guy proved in the 60s that we teach Spanish the wrong way here in the United States. The government knows that we teach Spanish the wrong way. They don't teach their C.I.A. agents or their spies the way that we learn Spanish. And I'm gonna tell you how to learn like the spies learn. So this is James Asher. James Asher conducted this experiment in the sixties. He traveled to Japan, where he split up two groups of Japanese students. So the group on the right were Japanese students that spoke no English to them. He only spoke English to them. The group on the left, he spoke English to them but he also translated it into Japanese after six weeks. Do you know who spoke more English? The students on the right who got no translations. When we first learn languages, we learn through comprehensible input. We don't learn through translation. In schools, they teach you through the translation method. Hola. Como estas? Hi, how are you doing? They'll give you a bunch of phrases that are common, and they'll translate them to you. Unfortunately, that uses a different part of the brain. The government knows this and they use this method called comprehensible input. The comprehensible input method is so effective. That's the only way that our spies learn their languages. You can learn Spanish like a spy too. There's an app in the app store called Palteca that uses comprehensible input to teach you Spanish. So that basal ganglia is stimulated and you can actually start speaking Spanish and understanding Spanish rather than just recognising some random Spanish words here or there. I've been using it for like three months now. Let me tell you I can order food in Spanish. I could have conversations in Spanish. Don't play with me and my Spanish now.
