Whatnot
Why it worked
The video leverages the popular 'haul' format to showcase a unique, high-interest vintage item, creating a sense of personal discovery that feels authentic rather than like a scripted advertisement.
Summary
The creator unboxes a vintage quilt she purchased through the Whatnot platform. She displays the quilt's pattern and colors to her audience before mentioning she plans to wash it.
Structure
- 1Introduction of the Whatnot package
- 2Unboxing the vintage quilt
- 3Displaying the quilt's design and colors
- 4Closing remarks
Product placement
Whatnot: (a) ACTS — the creator explicitly states she is doing a "Whatnot haul" and shows the package she received from the platform, which is the source of the product she is demonstrating. Removing the mention of Whatnot would change the context of where the item was acquired. The brand is also tagged in the caption.
