I know I can't be the only one who's noticed that Nazar only affects women, specifically just brown women. If you don't know what Nazar is, it's basically evil eye, or malicious intent. That's why a lot of people wear the evil eye necklace to protect them from bad luck. It derives from Arab and, like, desi culture. Something that I heard a lot growing up was to not tell my secrets or accomplishments to everyone because people will put another on me. There's this fear implemented in you where, like, if you tell someone your good news, if you got a raise or something, people will wish badly on you and that raise will automatically be taken away from you. Where I've seen some women get so attached to this, where they start getting anxiety. Where they feel like if they do share anything, as I was growing up, they're gonna get some sort of bad karma and they can't be vocal about it at all. Where I've even seen it in this unhealthy way, where when anything bad happens to them, they automatically blame it on nazar instead of taking accountability cause they're so brainwashed. But have you ever noticed another doesn't affect a man's day as it does a woman's and they can just go on with their lives? Obviously I'm not encouraging this at all, but you see a lot of men who are very showy with their luxury, with their cars, their money. whereas A lot of girls, they have, like, no post on Instagram because they're scared of Nazar. A lot of young girls growing up are told to be humble and not to show off, to dress modest, not be too vocal. We're basically told to mute ourselves down and sit still in hopes that we don't get bad luck. Men are never told that, and they don't have this imaginary fear of bad luck stopping them from doing anything. Obviously, I think that there's bad luck out there, and I know that people aren't always wishing you the best. This might be a hot take, but I think a lot of this imaginary is a lot of hoo ha, and I think it's put in place to stop a woman from accomplishing things. I definitely don't think that you should share every single piece of good news, but I also don't think it's healthy to not be trusting and also not go for opportunities that you want. I don't know. I feel like there are a lot of cultural unlearnings that we should do as a society. I have a lot more to say on this. so let me know what your thoughts are.
