There are three things you should never say to a contractor or repairman. Them are what I'm a chief engineer. I've seen this. Techs who take advantage and the exact phrasing that opening. Save this before your next service call. Number one, never say my insurance is covering this. The second, the someone else is paying, the estimate has a way of getting bigger. Keep that information to yourself until the price is already locked in. Number two, never say, just fix whatever needs fixing. Check. Always ask for exceed number before they touch anything. This forces them to a ceiling the invoice as they go. No. 3. Never say, I don't know how any of this works. To fake expertise, tells them you won't question a single line on the bill.
