Grey blending takes a MINUTE 😮‍💨 especially when we’re working with super long, thick hair AND previous box dye! This beautiful client came back in for her grey blending refresh. We’ve been slowly growing out her greys and working through years of previous color to get her closer to her goal. Her situation is a little more complex because she LOVES having dark, rich hair… but at the same time, she wants to embrace her natural grey without covering it. 🤍🖤 Her natural pattern is also completely different throughout her head. Around the front of her face, she grows in much darker. Then it transitions into salt & pepper, while the crown grows in VERY white. Now that she had more regrowth this session, I was finally able to really see where the darkness naturally needed to live. Instead of making everything lighter, we strategically added depth back into the areas that needed it while keeping and blending the beautiful grey throughout the top. The goal was NOT to make her super light and it was NOT to make her super dark. The goal was to create a soft, dimensional salt & pepper look that works WITH her natural pattern instead of fighting against it. And this is exactly why I always say: GREY BLENDING IS A PROCESS. Especially when we’re dealing with: • Previous box dye • Color correction • Extremely long and thick hair • Different percentages of grey throughout the head • A client who wants to embrace her grey but still loves being dark There is A LOT to think about. Where do we add darkness? Where do we leave the grey? How light is too light? How dark is too dark? How do we make everything grow out beautifully without creating another harsh line? It’s not about getting everything “perfect” in one appointment. It’s about making smart decisions each session while protecting the hair and working toward the final goal. This session gave her a much richer, more blended result while still allowing that beautiful grey to shine through. 🤍 As her natural hair continues to grow, we’ll be able to refine the placement even more and create an even softer salt & pepper blend. She absolutely LOVED her result — and so did I. 🥹 Trust the process.
