If your baby wakes up the SECOND you put them down, you’re probably skipping the 5 & 8 rule 👀 This is especially helpful when your baby falls asleep in your arms but wakes during the transfer. 1. Walk around for 5 minutes Hold baby snug against your chest and keep things calm. Low lights, minimal talking, steady movement. 2. Watch for the signs they’re settling • Breathing slows • Body/head feels heavier • Hands relax • Crying stops 3. Stop walking — but don’t transfer yet This is the step most parents skip because they think, “They’re asleep! Quick, put them down!” 😂 4. Hold completely still for 8 minutes Same position. No bouncing or rocking. This gives baby more time to settle into a deeper sleep before you attempt the transfer. 5. Do a quick arm test Gently lift their arm and let it fall. If it feels loose and relaxed, you’re likely ready to transfer. 6. Transfer slowly Feet/bottom or side first, then shoulders and head. Keep your hands on baby for a few breaths before stepping away. If they squirm, pause before immediately picking them back up. If they fully wake, start again. It’s not magic ✨ It’s timing. ⏰ 👉 Send this to the parent who’s tired of rocking their baby to sleep… just to have them wake on the transfer. 👉 Comment “REST” for my guide on tackling night wakings! 💜 Follow @babygotjaq certified sleep consultant and mom of 3 for daily baby and toddler sleep tips backed by science. #sleepconsultant #babysleep #baby #momof3
