Sydney Sweeney commercial

Why it worked

The video taps into a common sentiment about the perceived over-sexualization and lack of originality in modern advertising, using a popular celebrity as a relatable example. The creator's direct and slightly exasperated tone likely resonated with viewers who share similar frustrations.

Summary

The creator questions the current state of advertising in Hollywood, specifically criticizing the frequent use of Sydney Sweeney in revealing outfits for commercials. They lament the perceived lack of creativity and suggest a return to simpler advertising methods.

Structure

1Questioning current advertising trends
2Criticizing Sydney Sweeney's commercial appearances
3Comparing current ads to past simpler ads
4Expressing a desire for a return to older advertising styles

Product placement

Sydney Sweeney (actor, appears in a commercial) - ACTS: appears in a commercial, her image is used to sell a product. Removing her image would change the commercial. The commercial itself is for an unspecified product, likely a consumer good or service, given the context of a Super Bowl ad. The Super Bowl (event) - APPEARS: mentioned as the context for the commercial. Removing it would change the context of the discussion. Pepsi (brand) - APPEARS: mentioned as an example of a brand that used to be advertised. Removing it would change the example.

Original caption

I’m sorry but I genuinely need to know when we all agreed that Sydney Sweeney being half naked was now a personality trait for Hollywood. Every time I open my phone she’s in another ad wearing somehow less clothing than the last one. At this point I know animals that wear more clothes than Sydney Sweeney. Nudists are looking at her like girl put something on. Is this really the best we’ve got? Every advertising meeting now feels like someone walks in and goes, “Okay hear me out…Sydney Sweeney…but naked.” I miss when famous people sold us shit by holding a Pepsi and smiling. Hollywood used to at least pretend there was an idea involved. #sydneysweeney #hollywood #Advertising #millennial #novig
