I don’t know why seeing Arnold as an adult messed me up this much. Maybe because Hey Arnold! always understood something about being a kid that a lot of shows didn’t. Most of the time, nothing huge was happening. You were walking around the neighborhood. Sitting on a stoop. Riding the bus. Hanging out with the same people you saw every day. Trying to figure out what to do with an entire Saturday. And somehow those are the days I miss the most. 🏙️ The neighborhood used to feel enormous As a kid, a few blocks could feel like an entire world. There were places you weren’t supposed to go. People everybody knew. Weird neighbors. Corner stores. Empty lots. Your friend’s house. Your house. Then you grow up, go back, and realize how small it actually was. That’s such a strange feeling. 🛹 We were really good at doing nothing No plans. No group chat. No reservations. Half the day was literally just finding your friends and asking, “What do you wanna do?” And somehow six hours disappeared. I miss that. 👬 Nobody tells you everybody gets busy This might be the part of growing up I was least prepared for. You don’t always have some huge falling out with people. Sometimes you still love them. You just see them less. Someone moves. Someone gets married. Someone has kids. Someone starts working constantly. Then one day you realize the people you used to see every single day are people you now have to make plans with three weeks in advance. 👴 And somehow the adults were right When you’re a kid, every adult tells you not to rush growing up. And obviously you ignore them because being 30 sounds incredible when you’re 10. Nobody can tell a kid that spending Tuesday afternoon riding a bike with their friends might someday be one of the things they’d give anything to experience again. You kinda have to find that out yourself. 🧢 Maybe we’re still those kids Not literally. I have bills now. My knees make noises. I need advance notice before doing almost anything. But I also don’t think that kid completely disappears. Sometimes they’re just buried under work, errands, notifications, responsibilities, and whatever other nonsense we decided adulthood needed. Maybe they just haven’t had much to do lately. So yeah. Come sit on the stoop for a little while. You don’t have to stay long. What’s one completely ordinary thing from your childhood that you’d give anything to do one more time? #HeyArnold #90sKids #MillennialNostalgia #StillThatKid #Nickelodeon
