From Arnold: A lot of you asked if Helga and I ever got together. We did. It took us a while. Honestly, probably longer than it should have. But when someone spends most of their childhood insulting you, threatening you, and calling you a football head, you don’t exactly assume they’re in love with you. Eventually, though, I figured it out. And once I really saw Helga, I understood her differently. She was loud. She was angry. She could be mean. She was also one of the most loyal people I ever knew. She never really stopped being Helga either. She still rolled her eyes at me. Still acted like she didn’t care when she cared more than anyone. Still got annoyed if I held her hand in public and somehow even more annoyed if I let go first. We had a life together. Nothing especially glamorous. Takeout. Grocery runs. Sitting on the couch watching something neither of us was paying attention to. Arguments we forgot about ten minutes later. Inside jokes that stopped making sense to anyone except us years ago. People like to ask if we got our happy ending. I think we did. It just didn’t last as long as I wanted it to. I still talk to her sometimes. Usually about nothing. I tell her what’s changed around the neighborhood. Who moved away. Which places somehow survived. Which places didn’t. And every once in a while, I still call her Helga Geraldine just because I know she’d hate it. So yeah. If you ever wondered if the football head and the girl who spent years pretending she couldn’t stand him actually made it… we did. And I’m really glad we did. #HeyArnold #90sKids #Nostalgia #Millennials #Nickelodeon
