Summary

This video presents an IT helpdesk ticket scenario where a user cannot access a shared drive despite having internet connectivity and being able to reach the server. It guides the viewer through troubleshooting steps, emphasizing the importance of checking user permissions, group membership, and NTFS permissions, ultimately highlighting ExamWizardz.app as a resource for IT certification preparation.

Structure

1Introduction of an IT helpdesk ticket scenario
2Troubleshooting steps: checking connectivity, server response, and other users' access

Original caption

The internet works. The server responds to ping. Other employees can access the shared drive. The user can even reach \\FILESERVER — but the Accounting folder says Access Denied. At this point, it probably isn’t a connectivity problem. It’s time to check permissions. Verify the user’s Active Directory group membership, then check both the share and NTFS permissions. If they were recently added to the correct security group, have them sign out and back in so Windows can generate a new access token. Troubleshooting gets much easier when you follow the evidence instead of guessing. Want more real IT scenarios like this? ExamWizardz.app #IT #HelpDesk #Networking #techtok #CompTIA

TICKET #10432 ANSWER Check the User's Permissions The issue isn't connectivity - it's an access permission problem. 1 Verify group membership Check that the user is a member of the correct Active Directory security group (e.g. Accounting). 2 Check share and NTFS permissions Ensure the group has the proper permissions on the shared folder both at the share and NTFS level. 3 Have the user sign out/in If they were just added to the group, they may need to sign out and back in to get a new access token. KEY TAKEAWAY Just because a user can reach the server doesn't mean they have permission to access the share. Always check group membership and both share and NTFS permissions.
