1. Phuket is huge. It’s Thailand’s largest island and an entire province, not simply Patong Beach. Different parts of Phuket can feel like completely different vacations. 2. Patong is NOT all of Phuket. Patong is great for nightlife, restaurants and convenience. But if you’re looking for peaceful tropical Thailand, explore beyond it. 3. There are still quieter beaches. Search Nai Thon, Layan, Banana Beach, Ao Sane, Freedom Beach and Sai Kaew instead of automatically going to the three beaches everyone knows. 4. Phuket Old Town is seriously underrated. Historic architecture, Peranakan culture, street food, local cafés and a completely different atmosphere from the beach resorts. Sunday evening is especially good because of Lard Yai Walking Street. 5. Phuket food deserves its own day. Don’t survive entirely on hotel breakfasts and beach clubs. Try local Hokkien noodles, o-tao and Phuket-style dishes around town. 6. Your hotel location matters A LOT. Patong = nightlife. Kata/Karon = convenient beach holiday. Nai Harn/Rawai = slower southern Phuket. Bang Tao/northwest = calmer and more upscale. Phuket Town = food, history and local life. Choose based on the vacation you actually want. 7. Try Nai Harn + Ya Nui + sunset in southern Phuket. You don’t need to drive around the entire island every day. Exploring one area properly can be much better. 8. Phuket is also a gateway to other islands. Ko Racha Yai alone gives you white sand, snorkeling and beautiful viewpoints just offshore. 9. Never ignore beach flags. Especially during green season. Rough Andaman Sea conditions are real, and as of September 2026 authorities have recently warned visitors about strong waves and Physalia sightings at Nai Thon. 10. Two days isn’t enough to understand Phuket. If you only see your resort, Patong and one island tour, you have barely scratched the surface. Save this before booking Phuket because where you stay matters almost as much as what you do. And send it to the friend who thinks Phuket = Patong. #thailand #phuket #phuketthailand #island #travel
