The first 3D printed steak just hit US grocery shelves. An Israeli company called Stakeholder Foods is now selling a beef that's literally printed in a machine. It starts as soy flour and wheat gluten whipped into a paste that's fed into a 3D printer, which layers muscle paste and fat paste to fake the marbling. The paste itself is held together with methylcellulose, the same compound sold in pharmacies as a laxative. And when the entire process is finished, it looks like a ribeye, but really it's soy, wheat, and seed oils. The scary part is that they'll never tell you it's 3D printed, and their website just calls it a proprietary production process. The solution here is to double check what's really inside of your products. This is the exact reason I built Tallow, so we can see if the food we are eating is truly real. Scan a barcode, see who owns it, and instantly see if it's 3D printed with a score. Check the link in my bio to download the app.
