Din Tai Fung in Utah? Nope. Even better. Hometown Dumpling is tucked right inside the Chinatown supermarket in South Salt Lake and I am so glad we finally made it here. You walk in, order at the front, and they bring everything out to you. Simple setup, zero fuss, and absolutely incredible food. We got the pork and green onion xiaolongbao, the pork and mushroom xiaolongbao, the cucumber salad, chili wontons (actually not that spicy, and I am a total spice baby), pan fried potstickers, and two dessert bao buns in chocolate and egg yolk custard. All of it was so good. The potstickers might have actually been my favorite bite of the whole night and I did not see that coming. They also have a little sauce bar where you mix your own dipping sauce which is such a fun touch. And the price point for all of this is genuinely unreal. My only wish is that the dessert bao came with some kind of foam or whipped cream. A small thing. Truly. Because everything else was a ten. If you love soup dumplings or have been wanting to try them this is your sign.
