Don’t wait until you’re ready to buy before you start preparing. There are a few things you can do right now that could put you in a much stronger position when the time comes. Here are 3 things I’d be looking at: 1️⃣ Speak to a mortgage adviser Even if you’re 6–18 months away from buying, understanding your borrowing potential, deposit requirements and what might be holding you back gives you time to make a plan. 2️⃣ Use your credit card — and pay it off Using credit responsibly can help you build a credit history, but expensive outstanding debt can affect your mortgage affordability. 3️⃣ Ask for that pay rise If you’re planning to buy in 2027, increasing your income now could potentially improve your mortgage affordability when you come to apply. And one thing I really wouldn’t overlook… 🚨 Don’t take out expensive car finance right now. That new car might be tempting, but a large monthly car payment could reduce the amount you’re able to borrow for your first home. If buying your first home in 2027 is the goal, the decisions you make now can matter. Start preparing early. Understand your position. And give yourself a plan. If you’re a first-time buyer planning to buy in 2027 and want to know where you stand, send us a DM NEWHOME” and we’ll get you on the ladder. 🏡 Your home or property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. #mortgageadviceuk #mortgageadviser #firsttimebuyer #firsttimebuyersuk #mortgage
