Many people tell me that I have a talent. Would you be offended by that? In my understanding, talent is a predisposition towards something. It’s worth nothing if a person doesn’t develop it. And by devoting a lot of time (and for some people, it takes their whole life), a person learns to masterfully manage it. Usually, when people say this word, I’m not offended. But sometimes it sounds as if a label has been stuck on me. I'll give you some examples now.: Phrase: Wow, you have talent! - It doesn't bother me, because I understand that people like my work. But when a person says: Yes, everything is clear with you, you just have talent. - that's where I get uncomfortable. It was as if they had decided for me from birth that I would draw and all my further efforts and training were not so important. I often encountered misunderstandings among my peers when it came to drawing, both at school and in other educational institutions. For example, when the works were reviewed, the kids would discuss their worries about the grade, share their concerns, and support each other. But as soon as I approached them and shared my own worries, they would immediately look at me in bewilderment. They would say things like: “Yeah, you say you didn’t have time, you drew it poorly, but in the end you’ll bring in a whole stack of sketches — we know you!” Or: “Oh, well, it’s Apollinaria, she’ll still get a high grade!” After that, I started to feel like a black sheep among my peers. No one showed any understanding; they just dismissed my feelings. Just because I’m better at something doesn’t mean I’m not the same kind of person as everyone else. In the end, phrases like that still act as a trigger for me. Of course, I’m an adult now, and I won’t react strongly to something like that. I’ve simply accepted the fact that there’s nothing I can do about it. There are people who don’t appreciate others’ work. They can’t be changed, and I don’t need that. I don’t want you to feel sorry for me. I hope you’ll try to understand and be more forgiving towards such people. So that you don’t devalue other people’s work! And don’t forget to inspire and be inspired! Bye for now! #sketchbook #alcoholmarkers
