Apparently one of the best cars you could have bought five years ago was a Porsche. I just came across a creator that found a study from iSeeCars where they analyzed over 950,000 used cars to see which ones depreciated the least. And you probably wouldn't guess what number one was. Now keep in mind the average car loses about 41.8% of its value over five years. But coming in in second place, we have the Porsche 911 which only lost about 11.1% of its value. And number one is the Porsche 718 Cayman. Cayman loses on average 9.6% in depreciation over five years. And that's about $7,000. And having sold these cars at Porsche, I find that that's pretty interesting because the Cayman always lived in the 911 shadow. Now obviously maintenance and ownership costs still matter, but imagine enjoying a Porsche for five years and losing less in depreciation than most people would ever expect. Sometimes the expensive car isn't the one that costs you the most to own.
