If you're designing an app, you need to know the difference between UX and UI. The UI is the user interface or it's what you see on the screen or the tablet or the phone, whatever it is that you're looking at, looking at a product. The UI are the components or the elements on the screen that make up the view that you currently see. UX is the user experience. It relates to how the user interacts and experiences the application that they're going through. So here's a great example. You may have a beautifully designed UI that looks very pretty. The colors are perfect, typography is amazing. Everything about the UI is visually appealing, clean and easy to understand. Now here's where user experience comes into play. Let's say you're designing a checkout process. The UI is beautiful. Let's say the checkout process is ten steps long. You can imagine a checkout process that's ten steps long will be quite frustrating. The amount of details and information and confirmations that you would have to go through would create a pretty poor user experience. And I bet your conversion rate would be really low because the user experience of that checkout flow is burdening and it's overwhelming for users. What ends up happening is a good user experience would be one-click checkout from Amazon, right? So they are a great example of really good UX applied to a common workflow such as checkout.
