Here's how to play our backyard game, Benji Ball. We have two sets of rules that allow you to play in two different ways. Here's the first. You can play with a minimum of two people or as many people as you'd like. Each team rolls a ball at the beginning of the game and whoever lands on the better outcome gets to choose if they want to hit or field first. Two sides of the ball say Benji Ball. These are your wild card sides. At the beginning of the game, both teams agree on what those sides mean. It could be an automatic home run or out or an automatic end of inning. This is where you can get creative and even switch it up each game. Games are three innings with three outs per inning. Like any backyard baseball game, all of the same out rules apply. Three strikes, your hit gets caught, tagged out, and so on. If a player in the field is unable to get to the ball after you hit it to make a play, whatever side of the ball lands facing up determines the outcome of the at bat. This ties in the game of chance. If it lands on a single, you have to go to first no matter where the ball went. The ball has more offensive outcomes than defensive outcomes, so this forces the team in the field to want to make a play instead of hoping that a far hit may just land on a single instead of you possibly running around the bases. You can set boundaries, so if it goes over a certain line or fence, it is an automatic home run. Ghost or imaginary runners can be placed on base in the case that you don't have a large enough team to have players on base and one at bat.
