hot take raising venture capital is not a sign of success. I spoke at a conference last week and when they introduced me they said she raised $50 million in venture capital and everybody claps. I interrupt them and I said listen that's not a sign of success and I'm saying this as a venture capitalist. I boost up my first business to 28 million dollars in revenue profitably and own 100% of it before I raised 50 million, which is something I'm way more proud of and is way harder than fundraising. We've been sold this lie for so long that fundraising means that you've made it but the fact is that most companies do not need investors and should not take investment. When you raise venture capital you've signed up for another full time job. You're managing people's expectations, their money and their exit plans. They're gonna wanna make their money back. Most venture back companies never become profitable. They either die trying or sell out early trying to make their investors whole and bootstrap companies by definition have to print cash. Listen some companies are venture scalable but the fact is that most businesses should bootstrap.
