I've had three friends in the last week who have had to move out of neighborhoods like the Marina and the Mission into places they feel are safer because the street conditions in San Francisco have continued to be so fucking terrible. The truth is people are exhausted in the city. And even though we have a new mayor and he's trying really hard, it hasn't gotten any better. He's basically just pushed homeless people out of the Tenderloin into the neighborhoods. So now you have drug dealing happening in Geary, you have people having mental illness breakdowns in the Richmond, in the Sunset. You have families having to walk over needles in, and it's absolutely unacceptable in San Francisco. We just can't continue going this way. And the solution means balancing tolerance and compassion with accountability for the streets. We can't be prioritizing 8,000 people who made a choice to sleep on the street last night over the 800,000 people who are residents in the city. We need change. We need change.
