here's how I became a filmmaker without any experience. part 1 My mum moved from Nigeria to London. She loved the movies, and would take me and my sisters to the cinema every weekend. Movies became an escape for me. If I wasn't at school, I'd be reading or watching a film. My mum got worried and enrolled me in acting classes to boost my confidence. On the first day of class they asked me to introduce myself and I burst out crying. I hated it and never wanted to come back, but my mum encouraged me to. Slowly I came out of my shell and developed a passion for the arts. My dad encouraged me to choose an academic course at university. However, I didn't get high enough grades to study it. Unbeknownst to my dad, I chose to study English and Drama instead, with hopes of becoming an actress. I HATED my course. We barely worked with scripts & the roles I was given to play as a Black woman were so demoralising. I decided to make something to star in. I knew nothing about filmmaking. Only that I had a story to tell. While making the short film, I realised how much I loved being behind the camera. That film got rejected from every single film festival I applied to. But, a large broadcaster in the UK watched it, and decided to give me £5k to fund my next short film. It ended up being shown on TV, and more companies wanted to work with me. Since then, I've been flown to Cannes for work, invited to Australia for interviews, and have been fortunate enough to work with some incredible people and organisations. I've still got more stories to tell, people to meet, and dreams to chase - But now I'm taking you on the journey Welcome !
