The gold standard way to open wine. I've hesitated to buy one of these cause they're kind of expensive. But I have a nice event. I've got the nice shirt on, so I'm gonna open a lot of old wines. This is the perfect tool. The gold standard tool to use is called a Durand. There's two parts to it. You'll see more of like a traditional corkscrew wine. Key aspect with the worm or the helix that comes out of it. And there's also ah so which essentially snugs in between the bottle and the cork itself. Imagine my fingers is the cork. It kind of fits nicely in between there. The idea is that if you can just pretend that this is a bottle of wine, you'd start by doing the traditional helix into the bottle, and then perpendicularly, you're gonna insert the you're gonna kind of hug it from both the inside of the cork and the outside. So that's why it works so well, especially with old bottles, old corks. Old corks have liquid time (against) their side, which are not good things. So they're really quite brittle. There's a slightly longer side. You're gonna go perpendicular to the helix, attach it on each side, and then you kinda usually have to jimmy it in there. So then you have this like, cross on there. It's a little awkward, but you grab the whole thing. Ha! And as you pull it out, I do a twisting motion as well. Twist, twist, twist. Twist. Twist, twist. The cork usually pops out all in one nice piece. And that's how you use a Durand.
