so this is an opinion I have about wine that people have not liked and people have not wanted to work with me because they felt like that it was a misalignment of values because meeting people where they're at within the wine world and I got asked recently for an article she asked me what do I truly think the wine world needs and I said what I've always said is that you need to meet people where they're at but I don't think a lot of wine professionals actually want to do that cause meeting people where they're at really means that you have to start talking about barefoot you gotta start talking about sangria you have to start talking about apothic cause these are really the wines that sell it's these entry level five dollar mostly sweet wines and for me I see the importance of those Barefoot Moscato is the first wine label in my book how to read a wine label because I'm a big believer that you have to get from 0 to 1 and that's what I really like doing is getting people 0 to 1 if you like Barefoot Moscato let's understand that Moscato is a grape and it's an Italian grape in origin and if you like Barefoot Moscato why not try Moscato d'Asti which is a pretty traditional wine that they drink over there and it's also delicious and it's also like 14 bucks at target and great producers make it and so this has always been an ethos for me with slick and when I've worked with other people I sometimes get pushed back of like you support big wineries like Marie you support barefoot so I don't think we can do something together because you are dismissing the small independent bespoke farmers and winemakers I like you can't support both and I just totally disagree with that I feel like a lot of these wines act as a stepping stone to probably more interesting bespoke wines but if people wanna drink Barefoot Moscato like there's nothing wrong with that people are picking to choose wine and I thought that was the point I remember going to a panel in Chicago is a trade panel I was just watching and someone who owns an import company asked the question to the panel how do we get people to drink wines that we like to drink and her example was like I really just don't wanna drink Kirkland Chardonnay and I'm like why not you know I wasn't on the panel but I was like why not like I thought the point is that we were all supposed to get people interested in wine and frankly like Kirkland has some pretty serious wine makers working on these wines like there's nothing wrong with a Kirkland Chardonnay and as an importer like wouldn't you think that like you would use that as an opportunity to be like oh you like the Kirkconnell Chardonnay like that is a unoaked chardonnay from this part of California we actually have something very similar in our book you know like that should be more of the attitude from people do you agree or do you think I am doing a disservice to these small independent maybe what some people would call natural wine makers and to me it's like they're the same conversation and I think in the wine world we all have to agree and stop bashing on each other cause it makes everyone sound pretentious and it makes us sound untrustworthy like some wines are fake or some wines aren't worthy or some wines are a rip off cause that's what a lot of people think so let me know what you think
