I'm curious about like the process of making the songs like does the chicken or the egg come first?

I'm curious about like the process of making the songs like does the chicken or the egg come first? Do you watch a scene from the movie and then you create a song or does Emerald Fennell kind of trust you to just make these songs and she puts them in where she sees fit? Yeah, to be honest it was it was kind of more the latter and actually we we started a lot of the album without seeing any of the film because we actually started it before it was even shot. Um so we were really specifically responding to her screenplay. Um and also we really wanted to make sure that it didn't feel too literal. We really wanted the album to be able to kind of like stand up as an isolated piece of work as well as working with the film. So we we weren't being too prescriptive about like following the scenes of her interpretation of the book, you know? I think we wanted to capture a tone and an atmosphere. Some songs are more specific to elements of the plot but other songs are more about you know this sort of feeling of this overwhelming and devastating romance and this feeling that you you get uh being on the moors like in the sort of bitter cold and um we're sort of working with those kind of like more overarching feelings as well. And yeah, Emerald was really cool with us to just like go off and then later down the line she would kind of be like, I have this scene what do you think would go here and we would either make something new or kind of show her a song that we felt worked.
