I tried out ZED CODE EDITOR for 30 days so that you don't have to And here are my thoughts on it ZED is really really fast and way more performant than any VS code fork out there when I'm working on multiple projects at once and I have multiple VS code instances my laptop feels like it's going to explode with the fans going off ZED hardly ever overheated It felt way snappier and much more performant that's honestly the biggest and probably only reason for the fastest editor experience out there I think they do pale in comparison in terms of AI coding features compared to other really industry standard tools like cursor antigravity windsurf all of that for example they do have an AI coding chat that you can do with Claude Code Gemini or Codex but because a VS code fork they have to build out all of this by scratch themselves and they also lack certain like multiple agents working in parallel at the same time I feel like multiple parallel agents working at once is kind of the metaphor I coding in 2026 Zed isn't a VS code fork whenever a new VS code extension for Claude Code or whatever comes out is not going immediately on Zed So in that case Zed just isn't treated as a first class citizen amongst for AI coding tools everything in-house which is really tough you want to learn more I think compared to cursor antigravity Claude Code and OpenAI Codex then you can check out this video right here
