If you just got your first PC, there's a 90% chance you're using one of these three things wrong. The first two are killing your performance, and that last one might be why your setup isn't even working. First, update your graphics drivers. Out of the box, your PC is not running your GPU at full power. Go to the Nvidia or AMD app, download the latest drivers for your card, and instantly your games will run smoother and look better. This takes five minutes and most people skip it. Second, set your refresh rate to the highest one. If you bought a 144Hz monitor but you're still in your display settings at 60Hz, you're playing slow motion compared to what you paid for. Right click your desktop, go to display settings, advanced display, and crank it up to whatever your monitor supports. You'll feel the difference immediately. Also to the third and the big one, make sure your monitor cable is plugged into your GPU and not your motherboard. This is the most common mistake first-time PC owners make. If you're plugged into the motherboard, your PC is barely using your GPU at all, that's if it even turns on. So move that cable to the GPU and everything changes.
