I’m a software engineer and I’m beginning to feel this AI fatigue as they call it. There’s new stuff coming out every single day and then all these people are feeling pressure to learn these new things right when they come out. As have I. But then I spend so much of my time trying to learn the new thing, they don’t really prove that useful to be honest. Like a lot of the things that come out are not useful to my role, my job, what I do every day, but then I feel like I have to use it or learn it. Because everything is made to be so flashy. It’s like, oh this is the tool for productivity for software engineers, but then it’s just like some simple wrapper that doesn’t really do anything. To be honest, that’s how I feel about most tools these days. Like it’s all so much hype. Now, I’m just a junior engineer, what do I know? But I really think most of these tools are just big flashy titles for impact and then the quality is completely gone. There’s no good good tooling that is being iterated on to make a good experience. It’s just like the first value prop is done and then that’s it. And why do I feel like I’m less productive now than before? Because even before when I was coding more manually, at least I had a straight line of sight, right? But now it’s like 10 different agents running at once and then I forget what this agent is doing, this agent takes like 20 minutes. It’s just like so much going on. I’ve always been a one and done type thing, like focus on one thing, get that task done and do the next. I like it’s hard for me to parallelize like this and maybe that’s the point now, but I really think it’s making me more scatterbrained and I don’t really like it. Hence the AI fatigue.
