You want to build a personal brand, one that's truly authentic and impressive? Then you need to be aware of one core concept. So two years ago, I started working as a content marketer for dozens of personal brands, right? I worked with a streamer that you guys are all very well aware of. I worked with a fitness influencer that I know 95% of you guys know as well. And the one thing that separates average personal brands from the really top and successful ones is this one thing, and that's being overly, overly conceited in your content. Now, what do I mean by that? I mean that in the best possible way, but put yourself in the shoes of someone scrolling on TikTok. Let's say you're into fitness, right? And summer's around the corner, you're trying to get lean, whatever. So you're scrolling, this creator says, 1700 calories a day, Whole Foods diet. Everyone's doing that right now. Whole Foods diet, Whole Foods diet, Whole Foods diet. And then boom, you land on one creator that's saying they're eating 500 grams of sugar every day. I don't know. They're drinking orange juice, eating croissants, cinnamon rolls, whatever it is, right? Everything that you're not supposed to do in order to get lean, this person is doing and they're encouraging you to do that and telling you that that's the method. Now, I can guarantee you're gonna watch that video. I can also guarantee that you are going to click on that profile. You get what I'm trying to get at here? That creator was able to stop the scroll by counter positioning themselves against the algorithm. Now, how do you do that? There's a cheat code to it, right? And it's, you need to start treating your content like an artist. And when I say an artist, I mean specifically like Kanye West. And the reason I say that, right, is because he is a master of creating art from an internal place of conviction and putting it out there and then allowing people to form their own opinions of it. Kanye doesn't create music based on what's working right now, based on what's selling on the charts, right? And the biggest example of that is in 2016 when mumble rap completely took over. I don't have to talk to you guys about summer 2016. You know, Uzi, Yachty, Young Thug, anybody, Gunna, everybody, right? That year, Kanye released The Life of Pablo, something that was probably the most anti version of mumble rap that you can get. Yet 13 years later, looking back on it, that's probably the most memorable album from that time, right? From that year. If you're in the same space I am, I don't wanna impose my opinion about music on you, but anyway, you get what I'm trying to get at? And that's because Kanye creates from an internal place rather than allowing the market or the algorithm or the world to tell him what trend he should be hopping on next. And once you start treating your content the same exact way, once you start posting content that you wish you saw on the for you page 12 months ago, six months ago, 10 years ago on Vine or something, is when your personal brand is going to shift from just being someone online to being a leader of a community, to gaining people's trust and followers. Right. The reason you feel stuck right now is because you're trying to create content that appeases the masses, that appeals to everyone, that appeals to the algorithm. And that's exactly how you fall into the trap of just disappearing on the for you page, being another creator that's never gonna stop the scroll and that's never gonna gain any sort of follow. So remember, to be dangerously conceited only means to be overly authentic. Because there's only one you. There's only one you on the for you page. There might be 100 different creators, but only one person can speak the way you speak, can think the way you think, and can create the way you create. Now, once you start embracing that and start leveraging that, that's when you'll build the authentic and niche personal brand that you're looking for.
