Here are some passion projects I would urge you to do based off of your major. So first up, I'm going to do my marketing and advertising majors because that's what I do, so that's the easiest. I would tell you to build out a campaign deck for your favorite brands and either rebrand that brand or launch a fake product that that brand has never had to this day. Okay? And if you're like, I don't have no favorite brands, then launch your own product, okay? Be an entrepreneur. Be a fake entrepreneur and build out a campaign deck of what that end to end launch would look like. Next, if you're a UI/UX designer, I would literally tell you to go on the App Store, find an app that you hate and then re-explain how you would redesign that website, what tools you would use to make the UI better and so on so forth. Basically document that process. If you're a data analytics major, go onto the public databases and pull public data and make dashboard showcasing different statistics and analytics that maybe the public didn't know about before. For software engineers, I would tell you to code out your own app, your website. It does not have to be super, super crazy. You can literally build like a recipe app, a habit tracker, something that solves an everyday issue. If you're on the more creative side of majors like film, journalism, all that, make that blog post, make that podcast, make the spec ad. Okay? Build your commercials, build your mini films. Like, do whatever you can and just get your work out there. Cause while all these majors are totally different, as you can see, a passion project, at the end of the day, is you showcasing your work based off of something that you're passionate about. You do not always need to wait for paid work to try and showcase your skills to somebody. A lot of times, how you get paid work is proving that you can do something. And you have to showcase that by doing the work yourself and coming up with your own ideas and showing, hey, even though I've never been paid to do this before, I know how to do it. And I promise you, if you hire me, you will not regret it.
