POV: you're expected to work overtime without pay. Client just sent over a few last minute changes to the deck, so I'm gonna need you to stay on tonight and turn those around. Yeah, got it. How late are we talking? Ideally, uh, if we could get an updated version out tonight, so, you know, maybe a few more hours, it shouldn't be too bad. Okay, uh, just to clarify, would that be billed to the client or logged anywhere? No, so this would be off the clock. You know, we've already maxed out the budget for this work stream, so we can't really add more projects, add more hours to the project. Wait, so I'm gonna be expected to stay late and do the work but not actually log the time? Oh hell naw. Yeah, I mean, it's just one of those situations where we need to step up for the client and just transparently, everyone's been doing a bit extra to keep things on track. No, but I just wanna be like realistic. If the work is required, it feels like it should be accounted for, especially since this has happened a few times already this month. I totally understand, but this is pretty normal in most firms and sometimes you just have to go above and beyond to deliver. I mean, like, I'm just gonna be honest, I don't think consistently working unpaid hours is something that I want to normalize long term. I've already started looking around a bit and I have been auto applying on Sprout. So I already kinda have a few interviews lined up and if this is the expectation here, I'd rather figure that out now. Okay, um, yeah, so now is the problem to step up when the team needs you? You know, everyone else is making it work and I'm only asking for a few hours. It's not a complete overhaul of your schedule. I just simply don't think that the expectation should be to do the work without being recognised for it.
