Today is Tuesday May 27th, and I just resigned from my fancy corporate job with no plans to ever return to corporate America. Today is Wednesday May 27th, 2026 exactly one year later and I have movers coming tomorrow because I am downsizing. No, I'm not making more money now than I was at my corporate job, if that's not obvious. Um, I did think I would be at this point, yeah I did, haha. And I think that was just really cute and very ambitious of me at the time. But here's what actually happened in the last year. The first thing my body did when I left was completely shut down. My nervous system needed way longer than I could have ever predicted to regulate itself, so I gave myself the first six months to just decompress and breathe without a plan. By the way, I had about 18 months, a little bit more than 18 months of expenses saved up before I left, which thank god for that because I really needed it because I was way more burnt out than I actually thought. Not once have I ever seriously considered going back and I have had colleagues reach out to me so many times throughout the last year trying to recruit me for work, even as recently as last week, and every single time I have turned it down easily without question, without second guessing. Each day I have slowly realized more and more just how far the corporate world took me away from myself and my identity, that it's just not worth any amount of money to me anymore. What has surprised me the most is that I actually don't need all of the things, all of the material things, the titles and the stuff. I don't need them. I used to genuinely think that I had to buy my way into other people's respect and friendship, and I've learned it's, it's not true and I'm glad I know this now. Something that I didn't expect to miss is the structure. Nobody tells you how hard it is to build structure into your life on your own. So I currently do social media for my best friend's business and for a local clothing boutique, which both keep me super inspired and constantly learning, and then I also teach dance fitness twice a week, which does not pay the bills but it's something that brings me so much joy and community that I could have never afforded to do with my old corporate travel schedule. Am I where I thought I would be financially? No. Am I where I thought I would be emotionally? Yes, 100% and I would do it again in a heartbeat. One year ago I had a corporate job, I had a large savings account and a large house with a pool and today I have none of those things, but I am more happy and more proud of myself than I've ever been in my entire life and that's facts.
