I am an attorney and here is my personal opinion on the Karmelo Anthony case. This case teaches us something valuable about emotional regulation. Truthfully, both boys could have walked away. We know that Austin Metcalf was doing great things on his football team, he was the captain and people had amazing things to say about him. And something that would have gone further with his character was to allow Karmelo Anthony to sit in the tent, especially if it was raining. Then he could have went home and vented to his friends like, why was this random guy in our tent and he would still be alive today. But I'm not absolving Karmelo Anthony of his faults here. You cannot bring a deadly weapon to school grounds and you cannot react in a way of stabbing someone when they push you. Because I'm sure Karmelo did not expect one stab wound to kill Austin Metcalf and they just so happened to die all while being on school grounds. Here I do think justice was served. Personally, I think Karmelo's act was more reckless and that's why I was surprised that the lesser charge of manslaughter wasn't the verdict. But overall, take a life, you gotta do that time. Sad case for both young men here.
