6 red flags on design portfolios from a recruiter that might be stopping you from getting hired. Hi, I'm Eva. I'm a designer recruiter in New York City and these are things that I hate seeing in portfolios. So let's dive in. Number one, low resolution images. Do your designs justice and make sure they're high quality exports. Something about a low resolution image makes the design feel low quality. Number two, a link that is broken. If I cannot get into your portfolio or something on your portfolio is fully broken, I can't look at a case study. That is frustrating. Number three, finding a template section that was not finished. The templates are fine to use, they're no problem with templates. The problem is that when you don't take the time to fully go through the template and make sure that you've filled everything out or deleted sections that you're not using. Number four, using too much motion. Sometimes it can be extremely distracting as a recruiter to try to look through your work and there's constant animation. Number five, your portfolio looks vibe coded. I'm just gonna leave it at that. You guys know what I'm talking about. Lastly, number six, scroll animations that are too long. I love scroll animations, I think they're very satisfying, they're very impressive. I know that they're difficult to build, but if I have to scroll more than three times to actually see what's after the scroll, it's really frustrating as a recruiter. And while these are all technically red flags on your portfolio, it's not necessarily a make or break. But having these things polished on your portfolio is gonna give recruiters a better chance at giving your portfolio the dust it deserves.
