This Japanese AI startup just announced something that they say can compete with the Claude Mythos capabilities. The company is called Sakana AI and they just released a new system called Fugu, and here's what it does. Fugu is not one giant AI model that does everything by itself. It's more like a conductor. In their announcement, they basically say that you can send one request to Fugu, and behind the scenes it decides what to do. It can answer the question itself, or if the task is harder, it can call different expert models, give them different jobs, check their work and combine everything into one final answer. Trying to manually switch between a bunch of different models that you think are best for your task, Fugu is designed to basically manage that entire model team for you. They're basically saying, what if the better system is not one giant AI manager that knows how to use a bunch of different AI models? Fugu's job is to figure out which model is best to use for the user's task. Sakana even says the system can call itself recursively, meaning that it can look at its own previous attempt, decide that it was not good enough, and spin up another workflow to improve the result. The takeaway is that the AI race might start moving from single models to orchestration systems.
