The 2026 AP Precalculus exam score distributions are finally here. And to be completely honest, I am very much liking the numbers that I am seeing here. Now, the percentage of people getting this exam, a four and a five on this exam has been pretty high for the last two years in which this exam has been offered. But this year, it's a new high with 29% of people getting a five and 29% of people getting a four. This is also a record high for the number of students who are taking this exam. In the very first year that this exam was offered, I remember thinking, this feels kind of like a pointless AP exam to offer. And yet, 184,000 people signed up to take the exam that year. Then the second year, it was around 250,000. And this year, it's an all-time high of around 300,000 students. I do want to provide a very strong word of caution. If you end up getting a one or if you end up getting a two on AP Precalculus, I want you to think very carefully if you want to enroll in taking AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC. I am all for students challenging themselves and taking the harder classes because it helps them get into very competitive colleges. But if you do not pass AP Precalculus, it's going to be really hard for you to pass either AP Calc AB or BC. And it might be in your best interest to either avoid those two AP classes or really put in a lot of effort this summer to catch up and start the next year strong.
