we tithe $1,000 a month to our church. Let me explain why. Every time I post a budget video talking about our spending, people flock to the comment section to talk about why are you giving $1,000 a month to a church? To a church? Who are, by the way, not text. I am personally not going to use scripture to justify this action, because I feel like people could use scripture to justify whatever they want. So as much as I love the Bible, I am not going to use scripture to justify this. For us, it's more about discipline. We feel that God blesses us with 100% of our income. He could take it all away immediately. Think about Job, for example. So we show our discipline by giving 10% back, because if he can't trust us with 10%, how can he trust us with 100%? And so with us jointly bringing in about $10,000 a month, give or take, that does equal out about $1,000 a month. And I know what you're going to say next. You're going to say, well, giving it to a church is not giving to God. And I would say, if God had a mailbox directly, I would just do that, but he doesn't. So we give through churches. And no, we don't go to a mega church that the pastor drives Bentleys and they have multi-million dollar mansions. But I'll be honest with you and tell you that we've actually left two churches over money. The first church did this campaign that basically was like, whatever you're doing, you need to do more. And at that point, we were already tithing our 10%. And their campaign was centered on this fact that like, do it at whatever cost, whether that's sell your artwork, get a second job, sell your stocks. That sounded super culty to us, so we left that church. The second church did this thing where after you did tithes and offerings in church, he did this thing where he would be like, raise your offering, even if it's your phone. And so you would raise it, and he would be like, I'm only praying for the big givers. This is a prayer just for the givers. And I'm like, the whole point of it was obviously to inflict shame and guilt upon people who weren't giving and do this performance act of like, oh, well, we're giving. Not cool, left that church. So currently we're watching a church online back home. We're from Jacksonville, Florida. We live in Connecticut now. They are super giving to the community. I would argue a staple in our community. So we feel comfortable giving through them. And we also donate to separate charities as well, separately. The people that are about to flood the comment section aren't going to get to the end of this video because listening is a lost skill. But if you did make it to the end, I would encourage you to donate. Not necessarily to a church, but to a cause that's important to you. I feel like we're becoming this society that's just hoarding all of our wealth. And like, guys, it's okay to share. So find something that's important to you and consistently give to it.
